The Rating System

Alright. It has come to Medeia and I's attention that our rating system is...dull. Although we rate on a somewhat odd scale (7 out of 7) we do not understand what it represents. Many places (newspapers, magazines, blogs) will say "stars" as in a "5-star restaurant", but we do not want to waltz in that stellar direction (haha...sorry). Medeia suggested amazingly excited screams, but that seemed a little long so we disposed of the idea. So we're asking you. What should we use as our rating system? Suggestions are very...very.... very welcome. Please comment on it and we shall both be very much in awe of your generous brain-power-sharingness. And maybe your idea will be the winner (although we can't promise anything like an automobile as a prize). We might even make a poll! Oh! Oh! This could be exciting.

Pondering possibilities and hoping you are too,

Stickers!!

I am rather frustrated by something that I see more and more. This is the curse of stickers. Now I am not opposed to stickers in general, as a matter of fact, I love them. They can be shiny or fuzzy or politically incorrect or... you know what I mean. But there are some places such sticky backed items are not to go. And that is a book. On books or in them I see these random blemishes. And half of them have to do with movies.

Allow me to set the scene. You are calmly perusing a bookstore, secure in your literacy. Then you remember. Ah! I have ten dollars in my pocket and that book just came out in paperback. So you mosey on over to the section where said text is to be found and you pull it from the shelf, feeling its weight reassuringly in your hands. You turn it over to view the lovely cover art and ... BANG! KAPOW! NEON GLARE! Half of the title has been covered by a painfully fluorescent sticker announcing:

Soon to be a major motion picture, summer of...

Heart heavy, you purchase it and bring it to the solace of your home. After peering at the sticker for the entire ride home you are well aware that there is to be a movie in the summer of ... so you suppose it is time to scrape the offender from the surface. But when you try the label is obstinate and only half tears away to leave icky white refuse on your cover. You settle in to read the novel and enjoy it thoroughly, but are always faintly aware of that obscene mark on the front. Not like I've had any experience like that. Now tell me dear readers. Am I crazy (don't answer that Medeia)? Or does this bother you as well?

Scraping book covers,

Inkheart...

I'm not sure if I've told you all, but Inkheart is my favorite novel. I've read it almost 19 times and was aware of the trailer's release about five minutes after it happened. Now I know that I danced around on the last post, but I can't help but to do it again. So here it is. The splendiferous trailer teaser to the movie of Inkheart, coming March 19th. It is with great excitement that I viewed this as, although I am not much of a television/movie person, I observed Paul Bettany as Dustfinger. What a brilliant choice! And is that a certain horned marten we observe on his shoulder? But. After seeing the trailer and comparing (if even mortally possible) to the novel, I'd like to know what you have to say. Could it have been casted better or done with a better director? Can you already pick up on book-to-movie faux pas? I know I did *turns and sobs*. Oh, well. We've never known Hollywood to get everything right. A happy holiday season from me and (grudgingly) Medeia.

With laughter, comment hopes, and holiday cheer,

Comments!

We had our first comment! This deserves a high-kicking dance of sorts. And to improve matters it was from one of those queens of book-blogging, the three evil cousins. Aislinn Ai was kind enough to comment on a post Medeia and I had written up on changes and how great they are. Needless to say I am overjoyed and positively eager to someday see a post read 1 comment once more; I am on the verge of framing our first.

With laughter and full-winded commentary,
